Social Sciences 101, organized within the framework of TercihFest, our university’s initiative aimed at raising awareness of the social sciences among young people, commenced with the first event of the term held on 21–23 October, during which we welcomed students from Istanbul’s leading high schools to our campus.
A total of 209 students from the 11th and 12th grades of Prof. Dr. Mümtaz Turhan Social Sciences High School, Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School, 15 July Martyrs Anatolian Imam Hatip High School, Mehmet Emin Saraç Anatolian Imam Hatip High School, Fahreddin Kerim Gökay Anatolian High School, Şehit Haki Aras Girls’ Anatolian Imam Hatip High School, International Kaptan Ahmet Erdoğan Anatolian Imam Hatip High School, Samiha Ayverdi Anatolian High School, and Güngören İTO Girls’ Anatolian Imam Hatip High School participated in the event.
In Social Sciences 101, which offered participants the opportunity to experience various social science disciplines such as Law, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, Communication, and many others from an academic perspective, our faculty members introduced the rich world of the social sciences to the participants through sample classes and interactive presentations. In this context, Prof. Dr. Halil Berktay from the Department of History, Dr. Merve Armağan Boğatekin from the Department of Psychology, Dr. Feyza Uzunoğlu from the School of Islamic Studies, Dr. Merve Şahin from the Department of Management, Dr. Ömer Behram Özdemir from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Research Assistant Selen Fettahoğlu from the Department of Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence, Research Assistant Yunus Yeşil from the Department of Sociology, Research Assistant Nurhayat Bekir from the School of Law, and Lecturer Abdulhamit Bolat from the Department of New Media and Communication met with high school students about engaging topics in their respective fields. The program, in which participants met our academics and engaged in discussions on topics of interest to them, also provided the opportunity to experience the Ibn Haldun University campus and its educational environment firsthand.
Social Sciences 101 will continue each week with contributions from academics across different disciplines and participation from high school students throughout Istanbul.
